PCRM’s wish to vote Speaker points to an agreement reached with PLDM, analyst

The PCRM’s request to postpone the sitting of Parliament so that they have time to identify a candidate for the post of Speaker leaves room for three possible scenarios based on an agreement between the Lib-Dems and the Communists, considers political analyst Viorel Cibotaru.

According to him, the first scenario is that the two parties agreed to remove the negative effect produced by the switchover to the joint electoral system and the appointment of the prosecutor general. “These extra-urgent parliamentary actions were harshly criticized by the opposition and by a part of civil society. Now the PLDM and PCRM intend to restore political equity. Immediately after these changes are abrogated, they will go tranquilly towards early elections,” the analyst stated for IPN.

Under the second scenario, the PCRM helps the PLDM to bring things in Parliament in order. The third variant is a much more fundamental agreement between the two parties, aimed at creating a new parliamentary majority. According to the analyst, the situation is unclear as the technical details of possible decisions are indistinct and it is not known if the agreements reached will be implemented.

In the May 2 sitting of Parliament, the Communist faction asked for a pause until tomorrow so as to agree a candidate for Speaker. Marian Lupu was dismissed from the post of Head of Parliament last week, by the votes of the Communists, Lib-Dems, the Liberals of the group of reformers and the unaffiliated MPs of the groups of Dodon and Misin.
