PCRM will vote in favor of amending Constitution if Zinaida Greceanyi is accepted as candidate for presidency, Liberal MP

“After the visit to Strasbourg, we can anticipate what scenario the Communists Party will propose after the forthcoming elections,” Liberal MP Ana Gutu said on her arrival from Strasbourg at the Chisinau International Airport. The delegation of the Moldovan Parliament to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) returned home on October 8 in the evening, Info-Prim Neo reports. “I understood that the PCRM, after the November 28 elections, will not agree to immediately vote in the head of state, but will insist on modifying the Constitution according to amendment proposal they lodged with the Constitutional Court,” said Ana Gutu, who headed the Moldovan delegation to the PACE. According to the Liberal lawmaker, the PCRM will vote in favor of amending the Constitution if former Premier Zinaida Greceanyi is accepted as an independent candidate for the presidency. Greceanyi is not a member of the Communists Party, but is the second on the Communists’ list of candidates for the November 28 legislative elections. “Such a scenario was predictable and is now obvious. It is now very important for the parties of the Alliance for European Integration to win a sufficient number of seats in Parliament so as to be able to elect the President of Moldova. Afterward, we will start improving the Constitution of Moldova in accordance with the recommendations of the Venice Commission,” Ana Gutu said. The PACE session in Strasbourg was also attended by the Communist leader Vladimir Voronin, but he did not form part of the official delegation of Moldova.
