The Communist Party of Moldova (PCRM) intends to initiate a legislative referendum to rescind the Law on Guaranteeing on Equality, the party’s leader Vladimir Voronin announced in the program “In Profunzime” on Pro TV channel on Monday evening, Info-Prim Neo reports. “We will initiate a legislative referendum to undo the wrongdoings committed towards the Church and the religion. We will start this activity tomorrow. Nobody in the election campaign said they will bring the gays and lesbians to the top. I’m definitely against this law and will not give up until it is repealed,” said Vladimir Voronin. He also said that he will ask the Moldovan Metropolitan Church to ban the 53 lawmakers who voted for this law and President Nicolae Timofti from attending services. “They are like Judas. How can Judas enter the Church?” Voronin asked indignantly, adding that the Communist group will not work in the current Parliament anymore. The 53 lawmakers passed the Law on Guaranteeing on Equality on May 25. Its adoption is a condition imposed by the EU for Moldova to make progress in negotiating a visa-free regime. The day the law was adopted, several public organizations and political parties protested in front of the Palace of the Republic, where the legislative body holds its sittings.
