PCRM submitted challenges in almost all local electoral offices
The Communists Party (PCRM) has by an observer in all the polling places and by a representative in the electoral offices. Abroad, it sent monitors only to Romania and Russia. “We could not send monitors to other countries as the Central Election Commission did not plan the necessary financial resources,” the PCRM’s representative to the CEC Sergiu Sarbu stated for Info-Prim Neo.
“Our observers say political representatives continue to campaign and urge the people to take part in the referendum. The people are intimidated. The pensioners for example are threatened they will not receive pensions if they do not vote in the plebiscite,” Sergiu Sarbu said. “We submitted challenges in practically all the electoral offices.”
Sergiu Sarbu also said that the PCRM’s observer at a polling place in Romania’s Bucharest could enter the place 2 or 3 hours after its opening owing to a technical problem. “He did not see if the ballot box was empty. He could not monitor the voting process during several hours,” Sarbu said.
During the referendum campaign, the PCRM urged the voters to boycott the referendum.
