PCRM puts forward motion against bill on guaranteeing of equality

Communist MP Sergiu Sarbu came to the Parliament’s sitting on May 25 to read a simple motion tabled by the PCRM against the bill on guaranteeing of equality, Info-Prim Neo reports. Sergiu Sarbu asked that that bill should not be debated until the motion is examined, but his request was rejected by the MPs, who argued that the legal procedure was not respected. The Communist lawmaker’s intention dissatisfied the Liberal MPs. “It is defiance and impudence on the part of the opposition that does not attend the sittings,” said the head of the Liberal faction Ion Hadarca. The chairman of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu stated that at least 15 signatories should be present in the hall for a simple motion to be put forward, but Sergiu Sarbu came to the sitting alone. The PCRM’s document was however submitted to jurists for examination. After looking through it, Speaker Marian Lupu said it was a statement rather than a motion. Sergiu Sarbu told the press that the ruling alliance prepares a new blow to Moldova’s statehood and the moral norms. The adoption of this law represents betrayal of the people. Only several EU member states risked passing such a law, while the other European counties do not intend to adopt such documents. He also said that Moldova’s Constitution guarantees the human rights and freedoms, including the principle of equality. “The Communist parliamentary group is categorically against this shameful document that discredits Parliament and will oppose its implementation. We will take steps to annul it as soon as possible,” stated Sergiu Sarbu. The motion was signed by 36 Communist lawmakers.
