PCRM obtained large sums of money as 'donations' from students, pensioners and unemployed persons, jurist

Before the two elections held in 2009, the Communists Party (PCRM) submitted financial reports indicating millions of lei to the Central Election Commission. The reports show the money came from donations made by different persons to support the party. Jurist Nicolae Railean said he personally conducted an investigation and established that the donations were made mainly by pensioners, students and unemployed persons. He made the proofs public in a news conference on August 24, Info-Prim Neo reports. Nicolae Railean said the financial reports and materials attached to them contain many falsifications, showing that the PCRM had large illegal revenues and spent much more money than it stated officially. He said the PCRM in its financial reports declared incomes of about 7 million lei for the April 5, 2009 elections and approximately 4 million lei for the July 29, 2009 elections. The jurist made reference to Article 26.5 of the law on political parties that bans the direct and indirect financing of parties by state companies and institutions, by Moldovans who are abroad and by anonymous persons. “This article was ignored by the PCRM. In its reports, it indicated state-run firms and foreign companies and persons living abroad as donors,” Nicolae Railean said. The jurist said he traveled to districts during 3-4 months and discussed with many persons mentioned in the reports. “A part of the persons I met said they did not donate money and did not put their signatures in those reports. Others confirmed they signed, but did not make donations,” he stated. Nicolae Railean announced he will today lodge an application with the Ministry of Justice and the Prosecutor General's Office and demand disbanding the PCRM and launching an inquiry to identify the persons who falsified the financial reports. The PCRM's jurist Sergiu Sarbu stated for Info-Prim Neo that these are subjective conclusions reached by Nicolae Railean, who wants to improve his image. “All the financial reports are legal,” he said. Asked to elaborate, Sarbu said he is very busy and cannot talk anymore.
