Members of the Communist Party (PCRM) say they were the first who filed an application to the Chisinau City Hall, asking that they are allowed to stage an event in the Great National Assembly Square on May 1. In a news conference on Friday, MPs Sergiu Sarbu and Iurie Muntean made accusations against the City Hall, saying the application of the PLDM, which won the right to demonstrate in the square on May 1, was registered post-factum. Under the law, if there are several applicants, the right to assemble in a particular place is given to the first who submitted the application, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to Sergiu Sarbu, the Chisinau City Hall does not have a register of staged meetings. When the leader of the PCRM Vladimir Voronin announced on March 16 that the second Civic Congress will be held in the Great National Assembly Square on May 1, Sergiu Sarbu was informed that the PCRM was the first to ask the square for that day. “The PLDM has never staged events on May 1, 2 and 9. They will mount rallies only for fear that the people will make themselves heard at the Civic Congress. Those who voted for the PLDM on November 28, 2010 are also disappointed in them,” stated Iurie Muntean. The Communist lawmakers said they will appeal to the European Court of Human Rights because their right to organize meetings was violated, but they still hope that Prime Minister Vlad Filat will voluntarily withdraw the application, which they called ‘shameful’. Today, the Chisinau City Hall has announced that the Liberal Democratic Party will hold a meeting in the Great National Assembly Square on May 1. Later, the PLDM issued a communiqué, saying they are ready to offer the square to the National Confederation of Trade Unions.
