PCRM lawyer sues Parliament for ban to attend meetings

Sergiu Sirbu, the lawyer of the Communist Party (PCRM), is suing the Moldovan Parliament for being denied access to its meetings under an order given by Speaker Mihai Ghimpu. Sirbu filed a complaint with the Court of Appeals on Monday, with the first hearing to be held within ten days. “In the complaint I request the acknowledgment of my right to attend Parliament's meetings, which are public”, he told Info-Prim Neo. Sirbu added that he could also seek non-pecuniary damages from Mihai Ghimpu personally for the ban, money that would be spent on charity. Sergiu Sirbu was denied access to parliamentary meetings on April 1, as the guards told him they were following an order from the Parliament's leadership. The PCRM considers this denial even more frustrating since Sirbu was supposed to be the only man to attend the meetings on its behalf after the Communists announced a boycott on all the lawmaking activity.
