PCRM is ready to enter into political agreement with AEI by June 16

The Communists Party (PCRM) accuses the Alliance for European Integration (AEI) of unwillingness to reach a political consensus and of misinforming experts of the Council of Europe. PCRM made the accusations after a part of the leaders of the Alliance said the Constitution might be amended by referendum, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Opposition party condemns certain political leaders' attempts to involve experts of the Council of Europe in the political disputes in Chisinau, especially over the possibility of modifying the Constitution by referendum. “Unfortunately, the constructive position of the PCRM was fully ignored by the parliamentary majority, which does not have a clear position on the issue and does not aim to overcome the political crisis, but to remain in power and obtain political capital,” the party says in a statement. The PCRM reiterates that it is not possible to amend the Constitution by referendum because the supreme law is reviewed only in Parliament and can be modified by the vote of two thirds of MPs. The Communist Opposition says it is ready to enter into a political agreement with the AEI by June 16 so as to find a compromise solution. If the solution is not identified, the legitimacy of the Parliament will be reduced and the Alliance will be to blame for this. “Any attempt to postpone the setting of the date of early legislative elections and to amend the Constitution by referendum will be absolutely unconstitutional and will be regarded as attempt to usurp the state power,” the statement says.
