PCRM demands suspending Vlad Plahotniuc

The Communist parliamentary group asked suspending Democratic MP Vlad Plahotniuc from the post of First Deputy Speaker. In the Parliament’s sitting on June 15, Communist MP Grigore Petrenko said the lawmaker should be suspended while the cases of raider attack on Moldovan banks, in which Vlad Plahotniuc is allegedly involved, are examined, Info-Prim Neo reports. Grigore Petrenko said a number of media outlets reported that these cases of raider attacks on the Moldovan banks are examined by a London court and that Vlad Plahotniuc is involved in them. “Moldova’s image is affected. I suggest suspending Vlad Plahotniuc from the post of First Deputy Speaker during the examination,” he stated. He also demanded that Prosecutor General Valeriu Zubko and the head of the Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime Viorel Chetraru should be invited to the next sitting of Parliament to be questioned about this case. Speaker Marian Lupu refused to put the suspension of Vlad Plahotniuc to the vote, saying the Parliament’s regulations define another procedure for the suspension from post. Earlier, the press reported that businessmen Victor and Viorel Topa presented a series of documents according to which Vlad Plahotniuc is the beneficiary of the offshore firms that appropriated shares in VictoriaBank, Banca de Economii and other banks. The case is tried by a London court because a part of these offshore companies were registered in the UK.
