PCRM demands investigating Comrat acts of violence

The Communist parliamentary group demands holding an impartial inquiry into the circumstances in which the acts of violence in the meeting of the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia were committed. The Communists say all those to blame should be held accountable, regardless of their political affiliation and the posts held. They also demand taking measures to prevent such cases in the future, IPN reports, quoting a statement made public by the Communist Party (PCRM).

“Moldovan society witnessed an attempt to remove the legal authorities of the region. By threats and intimidation, attempts were made to force the Bashkan of Gagauzia and the chairman of the People’s Assembly to renounce their seats,” reads the statement. The Communist MPs express their concern about the inaction of the law enforcement bodies that, according to them, showed negligence, being only passive observers.

Earlier, the PCRM demanded calling an extraordinary sitting of Parliament to discuss the situation in Comrat.

In the June 3 meeting of the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia, a group of people burst in and got into an argument with the administration of the region’s legislative body. The Democratic deputies sought the resignation of the chairman of the People’s Assembly Dmitry Constantinov. Bashkan Mihail Formuzal was hit in the face with the leg.
