The leader of the PCRM Vladimir Voronin harshly criticized the decentralization program promoted by the Government. According to him, at least 280 mayors' offices will be liquidated if the program is implemented. “Society should intervene immediately in order to influence what can be named 'economic fascism',” the Communist leader told a news conference, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. According to Vladimir Voronin, the Alliance for European Integration will start to implement the national decentralization strategy after the June 5 local elections. The reform proposed by the Government envisions closing hundreds of mayors' offices. Schools and hospitals will be closed afterward,” said the leader of the PCRM. “The representatives of the Government can argue that these reforms will help save money and reduce the bureaucratic apparatus and will provide other arguments. In fact, they do not intend to save money, but regularly increase the personnel in ministries, departments, agencies, and Parliament,” said Vladimir Voronin. He also said that the Communist Party will hinder the implementation of the decentralization program. According to him, the June 5, 2011 local elections will decide the fate of the local public authorities. The program on the decentralization of the local authorities was worked out by the Government last year. The executive created a special website where the content of the program and its priorities are available.
