PCRM criticizes amendments to Broadcasting Code passed in first reading

“The modification of the Broadcasting Code by the parliamentary majority is an attempt to fully subdue the Broadcasting Coordination Council and the National Public Broadcaster Teleradio-Moldova,” the Communists Party (PCRM) says in a statement. The PCRM is dissatisfied with the amendments to the Broadcasting Code adopted in first reading. Under the amendments, the members of the Broadcasting Coordination Council and of the Supervisory Board of Teleradio-Moldova will be named by the vote of a simple majority of MPs, as against 3/5 of votes earlier, Info-Prim Neo reports. When presenting the bill, the charwoman of the commission for culture, education, youth, sport and mass media Corina Fusu argued that the modifications are aimed at unblocking the situation and filling the vacancies, especially for the Supervisory Board. The PCRM criticizes the parliamentary coalition, saying that it did not submit proposals for identifying a solution within the present Broadcasting Code. “We are certain and we reiterated this position for many times: if the parliamentary majority expressed will, we could find a compromise solution through dialogue,” the statement reads. The Communists Party stressed that the Liberal-Democratic coalition’s actions follow a series of attacks on media institutions that are not affiliated to or do not suit the present power, such as “Ploaia de Argint”, “Antena C”, “TopNews” - Omega, Ceas Pik”. The PCRM condemns the parliamentary majority’s attempts to subdue the Broadcasting Coordination Council and Teleradio-Moldova and the continuous pressure exerted on the media outlets that are not affiliated to or are not convenient for the power, the statement says.
