PCRM condemns shooting incident on Moldovan-Romanian border
The Party of Communists (PCRM) condemns the January 15 incident on the Moldovan-Romanian border, when a Romanian border policeman fired at a Moldovan citizen, wounding him seriously, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“This incident cannot be considered a simple accident that happened because of inattention or negligence. This case is a crime and represents a serious violation of the bilateral interstate and international agreements. The actions that followed this tragic incident showed that the Romanian authorities practically accused the wounded Moldovan citizen of what happened, not the border authorities,” reads a statement issued by the PCRM.
The Communists demand that the Government promptly investigate the case and that the rights of the Moldovans, including to life, be respected regardless of the place where they are – in Moldova or abroad.
“We are indignant that Romania, NATO and the EU did not apologize and did not condemn what happened, given that the neighboring country is a fully-fledged member of these international organizations. We demand that negotiations be immediately reopened so as to sign the State Border Agreement between Moldova and Romania,” says the statement.
On the morning of January 15, a citizen of Moldova was wounded on the Moldovan-Romanian border following an attempt to smuggle contraband cigarettes and altercations with the Romanian customs and border authorities.
