The Party of Communists (PCRM) said the mayor of Hartopul Mare village of Criuleni district was beaten with cudgels by several individuals. According to a press release of the party, the mayor, who is a member of the PCRM, was attacked on May 11 when he was going out of a shop. As a result, he was hospitalized with multiple injuries and a concussion, IPN reports.
According to the PCRM, the mayor of Hartopul Mare was threatened because he revealed numerous schemes of appropriation of public funds employed by his predecessors and their superiors. Five criminal cases were started as a result of the inspections carried out by the mayor over misappropriation, falsification of documents and fraudulent schemes.
Secretary general of the PCRM’s Criuleni District Committee Dmitry Gonchearenko stated for a news portal that this was an attempt to kill the mayor of Hartopul Mare. Offenders’ actions show that this was to be ‘a murder by order’. “He was hit with the cudgel in the head two times. He also has a face wound, on the left side. They struck him from behind. He was lucky to survive,” he stated.
The PCRM said the police are investigating the case to establish all its circumstances and to identify the aggressors.
