Upon his return from Brussels on Saturday, MP Igor Dodon, the PCRM's candidate for mayor of Chisinau, held a press briefing at the airport, where he informed that he managed to establish important contacts with the authorities of a number of Belgian cities and that he analyzed their experince in solving urban problems, Info-Prim Neo reports. "I examined the best instruments that can be used to resolve the problems concerning sewerage and water supply and road building. I'm confident that these meetings will enable to make maximum use of the contacts that I established," said Igor Dodon. The lawmaker said he paid the visit to Brussels both as a candidate for mayor and as MP. "I did not go there to look for solutions to the political crisis in the country, but for solutions to the problems faced by the residents of Chisinau, which I already identified," said the Communist Party's candidate. According to Igor Dodon, the trip and meetings with officials of the European Comission were planned long before the start of the election campaign, while the meetings with officials of a number of cities were scheduled several weeks ago. Igor Dodon met with Acting Prime Minister of Belgium Yves Leterme with whom he discussed infrastructure-related problems and Belgium's experince in implementing them, especially such issues as road building and energy supply. The meetings with officials of the European Commission centered on crossborder cooperation programs and the access to EU financing programs. "A number of my opponents were suprised by my visit and made different insinuations. They can do it if they want," said the PCRM's candidate. Igor Dodon had been in Belgium during May 19-21. He was accompanied by the Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Dirk Schuebel.
