PCRM calls on Parliament not to cut nominal compensations
The Communist Party (PCRM) called upon the legislative body not to support the legislative initiative by which the Government suggests annulling the nominal compensations, except those paid to war veterans and participants in the Chernobyl cleanup. The Communists say this bill will seriously affect the socially deprived groups of people, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to the Communist lawmakers, the country’s administration saves budget funds by reducing the social assistance. “More than 60% of the beneficiaries are excluded from this system – invalids, persons with disability degrees, disabled children, mothers with four children and more. The bill limits the people’s rights,” said Galina Balmos. She also said that even if these compensations are not so large, they help the recipients. “The Government proposed such amendments in order to fulfill a condition of the IMF, which was accepted without negotiation,” stated Galina Balmos.
Communist MP Oxana Domenti said the bill represents a final stage towards liquidating the system of nominal compensations that has worked successfully during a decade. “The people used these compensations to pay for public utilities and they were of assistance,” she said.
According to the National Social Insurance House, there were 241,000 beneficiaries of nominal compensations in Moldova in 2010, while the sum allocated from the budget exceeded 350 million lei. If the legislature adopts the amendments proposed to the Law on the Special Social Protection of Certain Groups of People, of April 14, 2000, the budget compensation payment expenses will be halved.
