The adoption in 1994 of the Constitution became one of the most important landmarks in building the young, independent and sovereign Republic of Moldova, says a statement issued by the Central Committee of the Party of Communists of the Republic of Moldova (PCRM) on the occasion of the Constitution Day that is marked on July 29, IPN reports.
The party says that the Supreme Law laid down the basic principles based on which the country and society must develop: republic, sovereignty of people, social character of the state, democracy and civilian freedoms, military neutrality and independence. “In the period until 2009, the then governments respected the main norms stipulated in the Constitution. Even if attempts were made to amend the Constitution or to adjust some of its norms to someone’s interests, these weren’t supported,” reads the statement.
According to the Central Committee of the PCRM, the situation changed radically after April 7, 2009. “The so-called democratic forces that came to power as a result of the coup of April 7, 2009 transformed the Constitution and the Constitutional Court into servants that must fulfill their goals and tasks of destroying the Moldovan statehood. The provisions of the Supreme Law are ignored, interpreted as the authorities want or challenged,” said the Communist activists.
The party’s Central Committee reminds that they express their concern about the non-observance of the norms of the Supreme Law not for the first time. The party is convinced that not only the ordinary people, but also the representatives of all the branches of the state power are obliged to protect and respect the Constitution of the Republic or Moldova. The Communists call on the whole society to make common cause with the PCRM in the effort to protect the Constitution.
