Pavement on 31 August 1989 St under topographic scanning

The General Urban Mobility Division of the Chisinau Municipal Council, in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, is carrying out the topographic scanning of 31 August 1989 Street, on the section between Mitropolit Gavriil Bănulescu-Bodoni and Alexandr Pushkin streets.

“As regards the situation of the segment on 31 August 1989 Street, we note that the project for the conservation and valorization of the historical monument is being drafted by "Chisinau Project". In order to efficiently plan the restoration works and to prevent the deterioration of the monument or other valuable structures in the area, the General Urban Mobility Division, together with the Ministry of Culture, initiated the topographic scanning of this section," Veronica Baltag, spokeswoman for the Division, has told IPN.

The consultant on heritage issues of the Ministry of Culture confirmed the performed actions. "Today we started the scanning of the section on 31 August 1989 Street. We will provide additional details on Monday, after these works are completed," Roman Guneavyi told IPN.

The extensive repair works on 31 August 1989 St started at the beginning of April 2022. The street was reopened to traffic at the end of 2023, except for the section between Alexandr Pushkin and Mitropolit Gavriil Bănulescu-Bodoni streets. During the works, an old pavement dating from the 19th century was discovered. This discovery aroused the interest of the authorities and heritage specialists, leading to a temporary halt in works for historical evaluation and documentation. The area was preserved to identify a solution for its restoration.
