Pavel Filip will run for president of PDM

Current interim president of the Democratic Party and former Prime Minister, Pavel Filip, announces that he will put forward his candidacy for the leadership of PDM. The Democrat made the announcement during a TVR Moldova program. The president of the party will be elected during the extraordinary Congress of the party, which will be held on September 7.

"Yes, I will run for the party head. I will present my point of view at the Congress and I will seek the support of my colleagues", said the politician. The former prime minister says that he was not sure if he was going to apply or not, because several critical elements necessary for making a decision were not clear. "In the meantime, I found answers to many questions, I understood several situations that we had to go through during this period within the Democratic Party and now I have decided that I will run for PDM president", stated the politician.

In other news, Pavel Filip is optimistic that more candidates will run on behalf of the Democratic Party during this local election cycle than the number of Democratic incumbents that won the previous elections of 2015. Additionally, the Democrat says that the current Democratic incumbents are not rushing to leave the ranks of the party, as it is rumored.

The PDM interim leader states that the PDM will certainly have a candidate for local elections in Chisinau, but it has not been decided yet who it will be.

During the snap parliamentary elections, the PDM will run candidates in two out of four uninominal electoral districts. The president of the Nisporeni district, Ghenadie Verdeș, will run in uninominal district no. 17 Nisporeni, while Democrat Veaceslav Nedelea will run in district no. 33. "We have yet to identify our candidate for the diaspora and we have not yet made a decision whether or not to participate in the constituency that represents the Transnistrian region", said Pavel Filip.

The PDM interim president says that these decisions will be made by the end of this week.

The position of president of the PDM is vacant after the former leader of the group, Vladimir Plahotniuc, announced his resignation and left the country.
