Pavel Filip: We will promote investment opportunities of Moldova in U.S.

The Government intends to promote the investment opportunities of Moldova in the United States, where a relevant information campaign intended for businesspeople will be carried out, Prime Minister Pavel Filip stated in a meeting with the Assistant United States Trade Representative for Europe Daniel Mullaney, co-chairman of the Moldovan-American commission for economic cooperation, IPN reports.

“For us, the commercial relationship with the U.S. is a priority, but the attraction of U.S. investments to the national economy is even more important,” stated Pavel Filip. In this regard, the Premier underlined the opportunities existing in the IT parks of Moldova, where the activity conditions are among the most attractive in the region.

Pavel Filip also spoke about the measures taken by the Government to improve the business climate, such as the reduction in the number of permissive documents and of inspection bodies, the fiscal reform, the amendment of the Labor Code and simplification of salary reporting. All these measures were based on a constant dialogue with the business community within the platform of the Premier’s Economic Council that includes the American Chamber of Commerce.

Daniel Mullaney confirmed the interest in fostering the commercial-economic relations between Moldova and the United States, noting it is important to develop an attractive business climate that would ensure predictability and transparency.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, trade between Moldova and the U.S. in January-June 2017 came to over US$48 million, an increase of 21% compared with the corresponding period last year. Almost 400 companies with American capital are working in Moldova at present.
