Pavel Filip: We hope we will develop relations with EU during Romania’s presidency

Prime Minister Pavel Filip voiced hope that Moldova will develop its relations with the EU and will consolidate its position in the Eastern Partnership during the Romanian presidency of the Council of the European Union. This is said in a letter addressed by the Premier to his Romanian counterpart Viorica Dăncilă on the occasion of the taking over by Romania of the presidency on January 1 2019, IPN reports, with reference to the Government’s press service.

“We welcome the Romanian presidency’s intention to launch strategic reflections on the future cooperation relations with the Eastern Partnership countries. The Republic of Moldova would like the EaP in the future to more harmoniously combine the technical and sector cooperation necessities with the long-term political priorities of the Eastern partners, especially of the three associate states,” runs the letter.

The Premier said the dialogue with Brussels is now very good and the common agendas is European. Infrastructure and interconnection projects are to be further developed so that Moldova comes closer to the big European family.

Pavel Filip wished success to the Government of Romania in fulfilling its duties and expressed his confidence that this is an opportunity for advancing Moldova’s European agenda and for developing the bilateral cooperation.

The Council of the European Union is the institution where the governments of the member states promote the national positions. It is one of the seven European institutions that, alongside the European Parliament and the European Commission, is responsible for the negotiation of the European legislation.
