The politicians who entered the electoral race for the November 1 presidential elections did this for vainglorious reasons or ambitions so as to gain political ground, except for two candidates who have real chances of winning the elections. Those who will struggle for office of President on November 1 will play only political games, IPN quoted the president of the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) Pavel Filip as saying in the talk show “Emphasis on Today” on TVR Moldova channel.
“I said it clearly that the Democratic Party from now on will promote a different type of politics and it is hard for me and a part of my colleagues to understand why any political party should compete in the presidential elections, at any cost. We were discussing with my mates the objective of a party. Currently, our objective is to be able to put the party’s view into practice. This is done through the government and the parliamentary majority. This is the objective and we will make effort to achieve it,” stated Pavel Filip.
He noted that for his party, the decision not to compete in elections wasn’t an easy one. However, if the party had competed in these elections, it would have deceived the own supporters and voters.
“We calculated very well and decided to be sincere with our voters, with party members and sympathizers of the Democratic Party. We consider most of the candidates in these elections will act as political figurants. We do not want something like this. Polls show there are only two real candidates for President. All the others will act as figurants,” said the president of the PDM.
He also said that the future election campaign is not the PDM’s war, but the party will not yet stay aside. The Democratic Party will be active in the electoral period and it took concrete steps in this regard.
After the September 9 meeting of the PDM’s National Political Council, Pavel Filip announced that the party will not compete in the November 1 presidential elections.
