Prime Minister Pavel Filip, upon his return from the second meeting of the Moldova – EU Association Council, said that in Brussels he received a number of confirmations that what the government does is good and that it follows the correct path in the implementation of reforms. “It’s not easy to go to Brussels and convince the officials there of you good faith, especially after these personalities who invested confidence during many years heard promises, but saw fewer accomplishments,” the Premier stated in a press briefing given on his return from a two-day visit to Brussels, IPN reports.
Pavel Filip said that over 90% of what he discussed with the European officials referred to the determination of the government and the parliamentary alliance to do swiftly what has been promised during many years. “These encouraged the Government to take concrete actions. We presented the progress report on the implementation of the Association Agreement. We agreed to update the Association Agenda this year given that the document expires in 2016,” he stated.
The Premier said that in Brussels he also spoke about trade and the implementation of the Free Trade Area with the EU, the political and economic association and about other issues. “We reached the conclusion that concrete reforms are needed to restore confidence,” he said.
In conclusion, Pavel Filip noted that the visit to Brussels represented a first step towards restoring the confidence of the European institutions. “Moldova and the EU have common views on the implementation of reforms. It is important to keep the positive dynamics,” he stated, adding that it was useful for them to set direct contracts and the Government will work and achieve results.
