If the identified and sequestrated goods are recovered, the obtained sum will exceed the US$ 1 billion that was stolen from the banking system, Prime Minister Pavel Filip was quoted by IPN as saying in the talk show “Fourth power” on N4 channel.
According to him, the government took a series of measures to prevent the repeat of such a fraud in the Republic of Moldova. “The banking system is powerful now. We strengthened the National Bank and such a fraud cannot repeat in the Republic of Moldova. I know that many were convicted. I’m confident that all those responsible will answer, but this is the task of prosecutors,” stated the Premier.
As to the guarantees provided by the Government to the National Bank of Moldova, Pavel Filip said he is convinced that the executive took the necessary steps to stabilize the banking sector. “If we hadn’t classed a sum of 600 million lei annually as public debt, we wouldn’t have received grants of almost 2 billion lei in the Republic of Moldova. We wound have thus made this sum of 2 billion lei the people’s burden,” he stated.
As regards the KROLL II report, the Premier said he didn’t read it and this was not published because the international company was categorically against this.
