Prime Minister Pavel Filip said he voted for a mayor of Chisinau who would come to work at the City Hall, not to use the local elections as a trampoline for this autumn’s parliamentary elections. “We all want to live in a clean capital city where the inhabitants benefit from high-quality services, where the infrastructure is developed and the politicla struggles count less,” the Premier stated after casting his ballot alllongside his wife, IPN reports.
Pavel Filip noted that as an inhabitant of Chisinau he is concerned about what will happen in the capital city in continuation. I think the people got tired of populist statements and political statements at the City Halll made by those who want to use the mayoralty as a rostrum. We no longer need a mayor who would speak much. We need a mayor who would come to solve the problems faced by the inhabitants of Chisinau,” stated Pavel Filip.
He also said that many promises are made, but the people reach conclusions after a term in office is held and judge everyone.
Eleven candidates run for the mayoralty of Chisinau. For the elections to be valid, the voter turnout should be of at least one fourth of the voters. The candidate who gains more than half of the votes wins the elections. If no one gathers the necessary number of votes, runoffs are held in two weeks for the two candidates who obtained most of the votes.
