Consolidation of energy security and the economic and political situation in Moldova were the main themes discussed in the meetings of Prime Minister Pavel Filip and Belgian officials. During his visit to Brussels planned for November 27-30, the Premier met with the President of the European Council Donald Tusk, Vice President of the European Commission in Charge of the Energy Union Maroš Šefčovič and European Commissioner for the Euro and Social Dialogue Valdis Dombrovskis, IPN reports.
The meeting with Donald Tusk centered on the political situation in Moldova and the reform priorities in the context of the European agenda. Donald Tusk appreciated the results achieved by the authoritiesin fulfilling the assumed commitments and the firm wish to achieve the set objectives. “As long as Moldova remains interested in doing reforms, you can count on my personal support and on the support of the European institutions,” stated the President of the European Council.
Pavel Filip invited Donald Tusk to pay a visit to Moldova at the beginning of next year.
In the meeting with Maroš Šefčovič, the Premier raised the issue of consolidation of Moldova’s energy security. In this connection, Pavel Filip reiterated the importance of extending the Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline to Chisinau. For his part, the Vice President of the European Commission in Charge of the Energy Union confirmed the EU’s readiness to support financially the construction of this pipeline.
The economic situation in Moldova, development prospects after the signing of the agreement with the IMF and the way in which the implementation of this important stage will strengthen the cooperation with the EU in particular areas were the main subjects discussed with Valdis Dombrovskis. The Commissioner said the EU is ready to support these reforms, including by offering a broad macro-financial program if Moldova ask to. The given assistance will be provided as an exceptional measure to support the balance of payments and will include both a grant component and a lending component.
