Pavel Filip: Democratic parliamentary group should not be mixed up with PDM

The president of the Democratic Party of Moldova Pavel Filip said the parliamentary group of the PDM was formed by another person and the members who are now present in Parliament have different views and there were particular attempts to control the group. Also, the Democratic parliamentary group should not be mixed up with the PDM that represents hundreds and thousands of competent people whom it will never betray. Those who will not share the party’s views will leave the PDM, as others did. The politician referred to the latest developments inside the party, IPN reports.

“I inherited a party and a group that weren’t formed by me. I didn’t put these people on the list. I came to a team that was created by another person. It is evident that there are different views. If I had formed this team, I think it would have been much more homogenous and we would have all had the same views and had been compatible,” Pavel Filip stated in the talk show “Politics of Natalia Morari” on TV8 channel.

The leader of the PDM noted that the parliamentary group includes MPs who have diametrically opposed views, from those who plead for union with Romania to those who sympathize with the Eurasian Union.

Pavel Filip said those who left the PDM got used to the fact that the party offers them particular instruments for promoting personal interests. “I can tell you about the discussions we had with a part of those who left: “Why should we stay in this coalition if it cannot solve the problems at the prosecutor’s office or the court of law?” Those who got used to the fact that the PDM is a party that can solve personal problems or can help financially will continue to leave the PDM. Those who share the same values and views will remain. The party comes to Parliament to help this country, to solve the people’s problems”.

As to the misunderstandings that exist between the members of the parliamentary group, Pavel Filip said he does not want to air their dirty linen in public and does not want a vendetta between him and a particular person. He was elected president of this party by a congress and has other more important things to do and problems to solve.

He denied the reports that some of the persons were excluded from the party. “When we speak about reformation or resetting, we do not mean exclusion of one person or another from the party. This means creation of a basis of principles and those who will not support this basis will leave”.

Pavel Filip also spoke about the meeting between Dumitru Diacov, Vladimir Andronachi, Eugeniu Nikiforchuck, Vasile Botnari and Alexandru Vâlcu held on May 3 at a hotel in Chisinau, which aroused different interpretations in the public sphere. The Democratic leader said he knew about this meeting, but he does not support such formats.

“I always considered that the discussions should be held on the institutional platform. I strongly believe that we will ultimately discuss based on such a platform and the reached political agreements will be respected,” stated Pavel Filip.
