The leader of the Democratic Party of Moldova Pavel Filip addressed a congratulatory message to the citizens who voted in a large number in the country and outside it. “Congratulations to President elect Maia Sandu! The extraordinary mobilization shows that the people have big expectations,” said the politician, being quoted by IPN.

According to him, the mobilization also shows that the people want a change and not only the change of the President, but also of the government. “It is the duty of the political class not to disappoint them and to come to terms so as to solve people’s problems,” Pavel Filip posted on Facebook.

The Democratic Party, which didn’t have an own candidate for President, didn’t state its support for a particular candidate. One week before the runoff vote, the party announced that it decided to withdraw its representatives from the Chicu Government. Pavel Filip said the ministers were withdrawn with the aim of enabling the legislature and the executive to build efficient cooperation, in accordance with the constitutional provisions and the people’s vote.

With 99.39% of the vote reports from national polling stations counted, Maia Sandu is shown to be the winner of the presidential elections. According to the preliminary data of the CEC, the PAS candidate won 57.44% of the ballot, while independent candidate Igor Dodon, who was supported by the Party of Socialists – 42.56%.
