Pavel Filip: Closing of CoE monitoring is a priority for Moldova

The closing of the monitoring of the Republic of Moldova by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe is one of the priorities of the Republic of Moldova in the cooperation with the Council of Europe (CoE), Prime Minister Pavel Filip said in a meeting with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjorn Jagland. The European official is paying an official visit to Moldova on the occasion of the launch of the Council of Europe Plan of Action for the Republic of Moldova for 2017-2020, IPN reports.

The Premier noted that the expertise provided by the CoE is useful and indispensable in internal reformation, democratization and consolidation of Moldova’s European option. In this connection, the Premier welcomed the launch of the Council of Europe Plan of Action for the Republic of Moldova for 2017-2020, which ensures the prioritization of the projects that need the Council’s assistance, adjustment of the cooperation areas to the European integration objectives of Moldova and of the assistance projects to the national priorities in different areas.

For his part, Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjorn Jagland said the organization he represents encourages the Government in its efforts to promote reforms, especially as regards the strengthening of the rule of law, justice, corruption fighting, consolidation of the freedom of the media and the measures to build confidence between the two sides of the Nistru.
