Pavel Filip calls on Czech companies to invest in Moldova

The Republic of Moldova and the Czech Republic have signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in energy efficiency and other related sectors. The document was signed during Prime Minister Pavel Filip’s visit to the Czech Republic, paid at the invitation of his counterpart Bohuslav Sobotka. The officials considered possibilities of stimulating bilateral trade and the export of wine products, the Czech Republic being one of the target markets for Moldovan winemakers, IPN reports.

According to the Government’s press service, Prime Minister Pavel Filip expressed his readiness to contribute to the more active involvement of Czech companies in the national economy and to the creation of a favorable climate for investment. The Premier noted the assistance that the Czech Government provides to the key sectors of the Moldovan economy, underlining the cooperation in the implementation of the Winemaking and Winegrowing Register, in the area of internal affairs, etc.

The commercial-economic relations between Moldova and the Czech Republic were discussed in a Moldovan-Czech business forum that involved over 80 entrepreneurs from the two countries. Premiers Filip and Sobotka spoke about the economic potential and experience of the two states and emphasized the importance of stimulating mutual investment and trade, of launching long-term projects with prospects and of establishing contacts between Moldovan and Czech businessmen.

“A number of 53 enterprises with Czech capital already work in our country, their investments tootling US$6 million. However, the pragmatic cooperation in the commercial-economic sectors remains a key objective. We invite Czech entrepreneurs to expand their businesses to Moldova. The Government is making sustained effort to ensure a more attractive business environment,” stated Pavel Filip.

For his part, the Czech Premier noted that Moldova is kept on the list of states that hold interest for the Czech economy and this shows the commitment to support Moldova’s development in 2012-2020. “The Czech Republic is ready to assist the Republic of Moldova in implementing modern technology in agriculture, in doing social reforms, in the building sector and in regional development,” stated Bohuslav Sobotka.

The Moldovan-Czech intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation will hold its third meeting in Chisinau this September to discuss possibilities of developing bilateral commercial-economic cooperation. A Moldovan-Czech business forum will also be held then.
