Pavel Filip about withdrawal of PDM’s ministers: Government should be reformed

The Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) is no longer in power and is not in a government coalition. At the same time, the party’s president Pavel Filip avoids saying if the Democratic parliamentary groups will be in the opposition, IPN reports.

“We consider the government in the Republic of Moldova should be reformed. The crisis caused by the pandemic is very complex and we believe it can be overcome by a broad consensus of the political forces in Parliament. If we had taken this step after the presidential elections, we would have been described as opportunists, on the one hand. On the other hand, what is the position for negotiating with all the political parties when going to these discussions as part of a coalition? We aimed to go from a neural position,” Pavel Filip stated in the talk show “Natalia Morari’s Politics” on TV8 channel.

According to the ex-Premier, the PDM considers the government can be reformed by two ways. “The first way is the snap parliamentary elections that are not beneficial to the Republic of Moldova and the second way is our withdrawal. There is no majority coalition now and we offered the possibility of starting from zero,” he noted.

Pavel Filip called on all the parties to form a new government coalition that would enable the President who will be elected to build cooperation relations with the Parliament and Government through the given coalition.

The politician said such a profound crisis as the current one has never been witnessed by Moldova and it can be overcome only by a broad political consensus.

The president of the Democratic Party Pavel Filip on November 7 announced that after the investiture of the President that is to be elected on November 15, the PDM will withdraw its representatives from the Government so as to enable this to efficiently cooperate with the legislature in accordance with the constitutional provisions and the people’s vote. Shortly afterward, Premier Ion Chicu and incumbent President Igor Dodon announced that the ministers of the PDM will be replaced without delay and these were substituted later the same day.
