The leader of the Democratic Party (PDM) Pavel Filip said the Cabinet’s inability to approve two agreements with the U.S. Government for the allocation of US$90 million in grant funding represents disrespect for the citizens. Pavel Filip said the action forms part of the electoral strategy of the leader of the PSRM Igor Dodon, who wants to shift full responsibility for the chaos in the country onto President Maia Sandu, IPN reports.
Pavel Filip said the blocking of the agreements with the U.S. in the Government by representatives of the PSRM, among who is the Bashkan of Gagauzia Irina Vlah, is an attempt by the Socialists to leave the country without funds and to show to the citizens that they made a mistake when they voted for Maia Sandu President.
“For me, it wasn’t a surprise. We will yet see such things. Back last year, it was clear that Dodon’s strategy was to shift responsibility onto Maia Sandu for what is going on in the Republic of Moldova. This was the logic behind the withdrawal of people from the Government and this is what we see now,” Pavel Filip stated in the program “Emphasis on Today” on TVR Moldova channel.
Pavel Filip said the inability to get the money offered by the U.S. supplements the long list of failures in accessing foreign funds witnessed in Moldova in the recent past.
“This is disrespect for the citizens of this country. Half of the approved budget deficit is to be covered with foreign loans. We already realize that we will not have foreign loans from the IMF, the World Bank and the EU. We will not receive this money as we do not have a functional government and the laws needed for obtaining this money weren’t adopted. This is much more serious than their inaction in the Government. It is a consequence of the election campaign that affects the people,” said the politician.
May 31 is the time limit by which the Government of the Republic of Moldova can approve amendments to the two agreements with the U.S. If the deadline is not met, Moldova will lose the US$90 million in grant funding offered by the U.S. Government.
