The Republic of Moldova considers it is critically important to establish development partnerships to support the states that need assistance in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. In a speech at the ordinary session of the UN General Assembly, Prime Minister Pavel Filip said the United Nations Development System is indispensable for establishing such partnerships, incluidng at country level, IPN reports.
"The complete implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustanable Development is designed to meet not only the development goal, but also the ethical, economic, social and security imperatives. We welcome the adoption by the UN General Assembly of a resolution on the follow-up and review of the Development Agenda, which defines the roadmap for implementing the Sustainable Development Goals at global level," stated the Premier.
In partnership with UNDP and other relevant players, the Government of Moldova initiated the process of 'transposing' at national level the Sustainable Development Goals and of working out the progress measuring system. In this regard, a National Council for Sustainable Development Coordination was set up in July 2016 to coordinate and monitor this process. At the same time, in order to ensure synergy between the SDG and the national development goal, the Government set the goal of reassessing and re-adjusting the National Development Strategy "Moldova 2020”.
The Premier underlined the importance of obtaining assistance for increasing resilience to disasters and extreme manifestations of climate change to which the Republic of Moldova is exposed.
