Patrol inspectors will no longer take away license plates

The Cabinet approved the legislative proposal to stop taking away license plates from vehicles parked illegally, which was the duty of patrol inspectors, IPN reports.

Under the current law, the license plates can be removed and returned to the owner only after a contravention report is drawn up. The drivers are not allowed to travel without license plates and they had thus to a call out a wrecker.

According to the authors of the proposal, the National Patrolling Inspectorate possesses other mechanisms for punishing drivers who park illegally and there is no need for the inspectors to take the license plates away.

The punishment for stopping or parking the vehicle in a banned place consists of a fine of 2,500 to 5,000 lei and of two penalty points.
