The Supreme Court of Justice rejected the appeal filed by the Party “Patria” and upheld the Appeals Court’s decision to annul the registration of this party as election runner and to confiscate the foreign funds of 8 million lei used by it in the election campaign prior to the November 30 legislative elections, IPN reports.
The request to exclude the party from the electoral race was submitted to the Appeals Court by the Central Election Commission following a notification from the General Police Inspectorate, which informed that the Party “Patria” used electoral funds of 8 million lei transferred from outside the country. The top candidate for MP on this party’s list Renato Usatyi left Moldova on November 28 after he found out that he was to be arrested, as he said. He denied the reports that he planned to stage mass protests in order to destabilize the situation in the country.
The party will remain in the ballots that were already printed and sent to the polling places established abroad, but the stamp “Withdrawn” will be put on the right side of this party’s name.
