Patients to say if they bribe
An opinion poll, made within the Program “A Good Governance,” aims at identifying if bribery is given and received in the Moldovan public medical-sanitary institutions. The results will be made public in December, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Within the research, during June-October, 23 thousand questionnaires were filled in. According to the Councilor of the Program “A Good Governance,” Roger Vaughan, patients made this on the day of leaving the hospital. They were asked about the quality of medical services, and about the fact if they were obliged to give unofficial payments during their medical attendance.
In Roger Vaughan’s opinion, the study will give accurate data about corruption acts, as well as about the quality of medical services. “If this poll is made yearly, we shall improve the quality of medical services. I think it is a successful initiative. We hope all data will be registered and studied till the end of this year,” the international expert stated at a sitting.
According to the Healthcare Minister, Larisa Catrinici, people need to realize that they can state their opinion and problems in the healthcare system. “We can solve problems only if we know them,” she said. If the poll results show corruption acts in medical institutions, additional measures will be taken for fighting the phenomenon, the minister added.
Fighting and preventing corruption in the Moldovan healthcare system is carried out through the program “A good Governance”. The program is financed by the US Millennium Challenge Corporation and managed by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) within the Country Threshold Plan for Moldova.
