The patent merchants vow to block the railway to Ungheni town and to organize ample protests immediately after the parliamentarians come from vacation in September. Till then they will not protest in front of the Presidential Palace any longer. The announcement was made on Monday at a news conference at Info-Prim Neo news agency by the president of the Small Business Association (SBA), Eugen Roscovanu. “The private initiative is subject to a genocide. Since the moment when interdictions were imposed on the patent-based entrepreneurship, the vendors are impelled to work in illegality, having to pay bribes sometimes to inspectors in order to survive,” he said. Igor Rosca, a meatman on Ungheni's market, says the interdictions were enacted to favor the large companies. At the news conference, the vendors have said the meat is not going to be cheaper and of a better quality, if they open private companies, as they are impelled. The services of meat producers (they are allowed to sell meat on patent basis – e.n.) are of a lower quality, thinks Tatiana Scripcaru, a seller from Ungheni. According to her, they meat sold by the meat producers does not have sanitary certificates always and there is a risk it may be infested. The producers do not observe the minimum hygienic requirements, they don't wear gloves. The merchants hope the meat price will go down, provided the harvest is good this year. You need 5-6 kg of bread to grow 1 kg of meat. The commerce based on patents in Moldova has been gradually banned from 1 January, 2007. The Government argued then the system was a way of fiscal evasion and of stimulating the black economy. The modifications to the law on entrepreneurship patent, approved of in 2008 by the Parliament, allow the patent-based trade till 2017. However, restrictions are applied on a series of categories of goods, including selling meat. The monthly patent tax is 360 lei in cities, 180 lei in district centers and 90 lei in villages.
