Passports for children are cheaper, but expire sooner
Biometric passports issued to under-7 children cost less, but have a shorter expiration date and contain less information. Vasile Ciornii, deputy director of the passport issuing agency Registru, told a program on Radio Moldova that the passports issued for children within a 30-day term come at a price of 430 lei, as compared to 700 lei for adults.
The children's passports do not contain fingerprint information and their expiration period is 4 years, as compared to 7 years for other age groups.
The biometric passports issued to children aged 7 to 12 also don't carry fingerprint information, but unlike the above category, their expiration term is not shortened and they cost 600 lei.
As of 1 January 2011, there is no requirement for adult passports to contain photos of the holders' children. Now minors can travel abroad only if they have their own passports, according to international standards.
