Passenger train running on Ungheni-Chisnau route catches fire

A fire started in the locomotive of a passenger train running on the Ungheni – Chisinau route this morning, January 27. All the passengers were evacuated and nobody was hurt, IPN reports.

According to the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, the fire started at the railway station in Cornesti village of Ungheni district close to 5am. When on the spot, the firefighters established that the engine section was on fire. They localized the fire in about half an hour and at 6am the train continued its way.

The circumstances and cause of fire are yet to be found out. A short circuit in the engine section is the preliminary cause formulated by employees of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service.
