Passenger and parcel carriers mount protest

After over four months of the last protests, the passenger and parcel carriers mounted a new demonstration. This time they gathered under the bridge in Telecentru quarter of Chisinau together with their minibuses, IPN reports.

The carriers complain that they are stopped, checked and then deprived of license plates and fined because they do not have licenses. They submitted a petition to the authorities whereby they demand that their activity should be legalized.

In a press release, the Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure says the carriers involved in passenger transportation use reequipped units of transport and this is a rather dangerous practice. This is banned both by the national legislation and by the international conventions to which Moldova is a party.

“These units of transport pose a threat to passengers who are inside these and to the other participants in road traffic. Therefore, the Ministry expresses its concern about this. We reiterate that one of the priorities of the Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure is to make sure that all the transport operators obey the legislation so that the safety and comfort of passengers is increased,” says the press release.

The Ministry encourages the transport operators to work in accordance with the law and use appropriately equipped units of transport for carrying people.
