Pasha Parfeni reaches Eurovision Song Contest final

Moldova’s representative at the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 Pasha Parfeni qualified for the grand final with the song “The Sun and the Moon”. Moldova is among the first ten finalists following the first semifinal held in Liverpool on May 9, IPN reports.

The final on May 13 will involve Croatia, the Republic of Moldova, Switzerland, Finland, the Czech Republic, Israel, Portugal, Sweden, Serbia, and Norway.

The following countries will compete in the second semifinal on May 11: Denmark, Armenia, Romania, Estonia, Belgium, Cyprus, Iceland, Greece, Poland, Slovenia, Georgia, San Marino, Austria, Albania, Lithuania, and Australia.

Owing to the war started by Russia, Ukraine could not host the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 after winning the competition with “Stefania” performed by Kalush Orchestra in 2022.  The UK plays host instead of Ukraine.

In 2012, Pasha Parfeni competed in Eurovision in Baku with the song “The Fiddler” and finished eleventh out of 26 contenders.

Moldova has taken part in the Eurovision Song Contest since 2005. The best result so far was obtained by the band SunStroke Project with “Hey, Mamma!” in 2017 – the third place. In the contest last year, the band Zdob și Zdub and the Advahov Brothers’ Orchestra ranked seventh with “The Little Train”.
