The former minister of defense and head of the Security and Information Service Valeriu Pasat is concerned that the former Communist regime could return to power. He said he will become an opponent of the PCRM, will continue to be involved in politics, but will not create a party. At the same time, Valeriu Pasat said he does not intend to return to Moldova in the near future as he is engaged in scientific project in Moscow. Valeriu Pasat made the statements during a news conference on Monday, November 23, Info-Prim Neo reports. Pasat said he noticed the danger of the PCRM returning to power while he has been in Chisinau during two weeks. He had meetings with the four leaders of the Alliance for European Integration – Vlad Filat, Mihai Ghimpu, Marian Lupu and Serafim Urecheanu. “I did not meet with Vladimir Voronin and Iurie Rosca,” said Pasat. He also said that the leaders of the Alliance did not offer him to join one of the parties. The former minister of defense said he intends to create a foundation that will deal with the history and culture of Moldova as the country is poorly represented at the foreign level. Valeriu Pasat had been under investigation for over four years. He was arrested on March 11, 2005. Two of the cases against him, in which he was accused of prejudicing the state by selling military warplanes and rockets, have been examined two times, including at the Supreme Court of Justice. Every time, they were sent back. In July 2009, the Chisinau Court of Appeals examined them for the third time and confirmed again that the former minister was not guilty. The other two cases opened while he was in custody in 2006, in which he is accused of smuggling armament and of attempted coup at the instructions of the Kremlin, were not sent to court.
