PAS requests central bank to publish full Kroll 2 report

The Party “Action and Solidarity” (PAS) demands that the National Bank of Moldova should present and publish the full version of the Kroll 2 report. PAS leader Maia Sandu on March 12 submitted a letter to this effect to the Bank, IPN reports.

In a press release, the PAS said the synthesis of the investigation report published by the National Bank on December 21 last year cannot provide society with exhaustive answers as to those involved in the so-called “theft of the century” that resulted in the stealing of about US$ 1 billion from three banks, which was later turned into a public debt.

According to the PAS, the obligation to publish the final report on the investigation of the banking fraud from Kroll and Steptoe & Johnson results from the provisions of the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova, the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Freedoms and the national Law on Access to Information. The non-publication or hiding of the final report do not match the restrictions acceptable in a democratic society for limiting information of public interest set by the mentioned documents.

The final report on the investigation of the banking fraud together with operational data about the tracking of the stolen funds reached the central bank on March 6, but wasn’t made public. According to the National Bank of Moldova, the document will be transmitted to the national competent bodies this week.
