The Party “Action and Solidarity” (PAS) submitted by a complaint to the General Police Inspectorate and the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office over the corruption of voters by officials and members of the Democratic Party (PDM), IPN reports.
In a press release, the PAS said everything started after the PDM’s branch in Botanica on December 12 on its official Facebook page published an announcement suggesting the organization will offer “electoral alms”. The announcement was accompanied by four pictures of food products and persons who either provided or received the given food products.
The party noted that under the Penal Code, the offering or giving of money, goods, services or other benefits to make the voters exercise or not their electoral rights in the parliamentary, presidential or local elections and in referendums is an offense that is punished with up to five years in jail.
The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office was requested to investigate the involvement in this case of the president of the PDM’s branch in Botanica, MP Alexandr Bannicov, and to hold accountable the persons who directly corrupted the voters.
The PAS said the PDM is hypocritical when it accuses the PAS of violating the electoral legislation by disseminating information leaflets, but simultaneously distributes electoral alms. It also said it is inconceivable how this party can offer other electoral contenders, including the PAS and the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform”, to sign codes of ethics and conduct to undertake to conduct a clean election campaign, in accordance with the law.
