The Party “Action and Solidarity” (PAS) said the management of waste in the municipality of Chisinau does not meet the requirements of time. In a news conference, representatives of the party’s Chisinau local organization said the regulations concerning the organization of cleanup, worked out by the Chisinau City Hall, are imperfect and contain contradictory provisions and are even dangerous for citizens in some cases. The PAS considers the solutions that the authorities intend to promote are outdated, IPN reports.
The representatives of the PAS criticized the intention of the authors of the document to allow setting up waste storage points five meters from the windows of dwellers, as opposed to the 20 meters stipulated by the current norms. The party suggested gradually renouncing the method of collecting household waste on open platforms and storing waste under the ground. If such an objective is set out in the regulations, the necessary purchases of machines and equipment will be stipulated in the legislation.
According to the PAS, the European approach to household waste management will not imply additional public costs. Given that the EBRD and EIB will provide €26 million for managing waste in Chisinau, the money should be used not to maintain the current working forms, but to put innovative proposals into practice. Mixed trucks should be bought to collect waste both from open platforms and from underground platforms. “In 2017, there was allocated 12 million lei for setting up 120 open waste storage platforms that will be used for four years. Isn’t it better to build 60 underground platforms that will be used for at least ten years?” asked rhetorically those from the PAS.
