A number of representatives and supporters of the opposition parties PAS, PPPDA and PLDM staged a flashmob meeting in front of the Securely and Intelligence Service were they demanded that the Service’s director Vasile Botnari should resign and accused the institution of working by order of the oligarchs in connection with the deportation of seven teachers of Orizont Lyceum earlier this month, IPN reports.

According to the PAS leader Maia Sandu, the SIS fell prey to the oligarchic system at a time when the law says the institution should ensure the security of the state and the citizens. “We see that in the case of the abuse committed by the given institution, when seven Turkish citizens who contributed to improving the education system in Moldova were deported, none of the principles stipulated by the law was respected by this service. This turned into a cudgel of the Plahotniuc-Dodon regime, especially when Plahotniuc’s man Vasile Botnari was named as head of the Service,” stated the politician.

PLDM president Tudor Deliu said the state has been robbed by a group of oligarchs who want at any cost to remain in power and the example of the Turkish citizens shows that this can happen to anyone.

PPPDA secretary Chiril Moțpan noted that the recent developments should alarm everyone as Vlad Plahotniuc and his band will yet take actions that will violate human rights. “We do not want this institution to return to the infamous practice of the KGB. We are here because we do not want a return to the obscure system in this country that wants to be democratic and declared itself pro-European,” said the vice president of the PPPDA.

Seven Turkish teachers of the private Moldovan-Turkish lyceum Orizont on September 6 were declared undesirable and expelled from Moldova. According to the SIS, the seven foreigners are suspected of links with an Islamist group that purportedly performs illegal activities in a number of countries.
