PAS MPs seeks resignation of members of National Council of Historical Monuments

The PAS parliamentary group demands that the members of the National Council of Historical Monuments should resign because they destroy the historical center of Chisinau city in a methodical and planned way, IPN reports.

PAS MP Virgiliu Pâslariuc, a member of the Parliament’s commission on education, culture, research, sport and the media, said the members of the commission promote the interests of the realty mafia of Chisinau.

In a news conference, Pâslariuc spoke about the scheme by which the National Council of Historical Monuments was captured, following the adoption of the Government decision to amend the regulations concerning the organization and functioning of the Council on December 22, 2020. He noted that these regulations enable persons who aim to destroy not to protect the historical monuments to enter this Council.

The Council took several controversial decisions, one of which endangers the Constantine and Helen Church. A multifunctional complex with a business center with 21 stories, four apartment buildings with 14-17 stories and a three-story underground car park are to be erected next to this monument. The church and the Circus could collapse. Furthermore, the building of a multifunctional center would make traffic in the area heavier as several thousands more cars would be brought to that part of the city, opined Virgiliu Pâslariuc.

PAS MP Lilian Carp said that even the adviser to Mayor General Ion Ceban voted in favor of the construction of this multifunctional complex. “Even if he was warned by the mayor that he will be dismissed, the commission members can obtain the urbanism certificate by court decision,” stated Carp.

The PAS MPs requested that Mayor Ion Ceban should faster start the public debates on zonal urban planning so as to regulate the height, utility types of buildings and other aspects. They also demand to annul the given decision taken by the National Council of Historical Monuments until the zonal urban development plan is ready.

Contacted by IPN for a comment, Ion Ștefăniță, vice president of the Council, said that he would not resign, while the accusations made by the PAS MPs are political, speculative and unsubstantiated. There is no danger that the monuments will collapse as the multifunctional complex would be built 68 meters from the Constantine and Helen Church and 100 meters from the Circus.
