Gazprom cut the amount of gas supplied to Moldova in order to offer reasons for destabilization in the country through the agency of the fifth column, said PAS MP Oazu Nantoi. According to him, Chisinau would have negotiated lower electricity prices with Tiraspol if Russia had provided the amounts of gas stipulated in the contract. For their part, political commentators said the government acted incorrectly when it waited up to the last moment before looking for suppliers from the West and now electrical energy is bought in emergency mode at a very high price, IPN reports.
Former Deputy Speaker of Parliament Alexandru Slusari said the amounts of natural gas supplied by Gazprom are distributed disproportionally between the right and the left sides of the Nistru. Chisinau can press Tiraspol to produce electricity that it would sell to the right side at a lower price that the price offered by Romania.
“Since November 1, 40% of the natural gas has been delivered to the right bank of the Nistru, where 15% of the population lives. Outside Andrei Spînu’s energy hypnosis sessions that are transmitted each evening, I want to know if we have instruments to press the Kuchurgan power plant to supply at least 50% of the necessary electrical energy. I think we have. The Government can take strictly economic measures with regard to the Transnistrian region so that we have against a lower price of electricity,” ex-MP Alexandru Slusari stated in the talk show “Black Box” on TV8 channel.
For their part, representatives of the government said that discussions on a preferential electricity price between Chisinau and Tiraspol would have existed if Gazprom had fulfilled its contract obligations and supplied the necessary amounts of gas.
“The situation was abnormal when an environmental permit was provided to the Steel Works, but we obtained a lower price. The question is, who ultimately pays for the stolen gas that is used to produce cheap energy? Gazprom reduced the amounts so as to amplify the economic crisis and to enable the fifth column, which demands that Maia Sandu should go and beg Putin for cheater gas, to act. If Gazprom had supplied the agreed quantities, negotiations could have been held or pressure could have been exerted on the left bank. But there is not enough gas... Now the gas stores in the EU are full and the prices on the international market decline, and we for the first time purchased gas from the West,” stated PAS MP Oazu Nantoi.
On Thursday, Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spînu said that on Friday Moldova will have am electricity shortage of 11%. Romania continues to supply over 80% of the necessary electricity. Political commentator Ion Terguță noted that the authorities’ decision to buy power from the West is late. If Moldova had signed the contracts earlier, the purchase prices would have been lower.
“90% of the necessity electrical energy is now imported from Romania. Why didn’t we import this electricity until now? We now buy electricity in emergency mode and this is rather expensive. In February, it became clear that it is risky to sign contracts for the supply of gas and electricity only with suppliers from the East, including the Transnistrian region. If we had looked for power suppliers since February, we would have bought electricity at much lower prices under long-term contracts,” stated Ion Terguță.
