PAS leader: We cannot do in two years what we failed to do in 30 years, but we started important things

“We cannot do during two years what we failed to do during 30 years, but we started to do important things. We aim to bring the European Union into our homes by 2030 and want to no longer be blocked on our path of development and welfare. Considerable efforts and unity are needed further,” the chairman of the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) Igor Grosu stated when presenting the government’s accomplishments the past two years in front of the Parliament Building. The event involved ministers, IPN reports.

Speaker Grosu said that the Republic of Moldova is supported by the European Union on its path and the citizens demand that the political class should fulfill the desideratum to join the EU. “On July 11, it will be two years since the citizens of the Republic of Moldova scored a victory over the thieves and those who impoverished this country in time. This victory seemed almost impossible several years ago. In 2020 and then in 2021, the Moldovans combined forces and told the thieves and the shrewd guys – that’s enough! They told them that the power in Moldova belongs to the people, that sovereignty and democracy are essential values for our people. For two years, the Republic of Moldova follows a new path – the path of accession to the European Union,” stated the PAS leader.

Among the government’s accomplishments during the two years, the politician noted the process of assessing the judges and prosecutors, which started to produce results. “Ilan Shor was sentenced definitively in the bank fraud case and will have to pay 5 billion lei back to the state. With the assistance of the foreign partners, we obtained the imposition of international sanctions against the fugitives and the groups that try to destabilize the country. At the Government’s request, the Constitutional Court decided to outlaw the Shor Party and this means that the party will be eliminated and will no logier receive money from the state, while its assets will be confiscated so as to cover the damage caused to the state,” said Igor Grosu.

According to him, the justice sector reform remains a priority for the government. This year Moldova must make irreversible progress on the path of European integration so that the accession negotiations with the EU are opened.

Attending the event, Premier Dorin Recean said that when the PAS took over, the Republic of Moldova was experiencing a pandemic crisis, which was followed by an energy crisis that became more acute following the outbreak of Russia’s war against Ukraine. The Government offered subsidies for energy to the citizens, doubled the minimum pension, increased the salaries of public sector and healthcare employees. “Moreover, the Government increased the minimum official salary threefold. On April 1, 2023, as on April 1, 2022, the Government indexed the pensions by over 15%,” stated Premier Recean.

He also mentioned other measures taken to support the agricultural sector, the national economy, to reform the justice sector and to support the population.
